CAPTAINS REST

CAPTAIN’S REST. SHACK WITH STYLE.

A secluded shack on the waterfront.

Captain’s Rest is an iconic shack with style in Tasmania overlooking Lettes Bay. Owned by Sarah Andrew’s, who has had an incredible life journey so far, (sailing the world, to sinking her yacht, & living a life as a castaway in Mexico in a simple shack, something I can actually relate to, having lived a similar life in Mexico too. That’s another story) It is a work of art that Sarah renovated this stunning 80 year old heritage-listed cottage, a stylist who is known for now teaching others to do the same.

Its isolation, peace and distance to any form of real life, reminds you about how important it is to just live in the present moment.

Captains rest encapsulates you into its arms like a ‘big hug’ you just feel so comfy you never want to leave. Trust me!

WHY I LOVE IT!

How do I even begin to explain why I love it? My husband and I, Mikey Enright, had booked this stay over 2, and half years ago. We were so thrilled when we finally could go.

We turned up and, to be honest, weren’t sure if we were in the right place. The image of the shack we were looking for was a one-of-a-kind, stylish on the outside and picturesque, a shack-like no other, one that stops you in your tracks. These were certainly not on the same scale. So we both got out of the car to try and find it. It was the ducks that we found, or the ‘girls that Sarah calls them. We knew we were in the right place. We saw the jetty and headed towards it, and there it was in all its splendour, even more so than in the pictures. Captains Rest.

The serenity and views were breathtaking. I’ve been to many places, but I wasn’t expecting to feel immediately so attached to the Captains Rest. Sarah has renovated this place with an eye for styling a space and decorating it with a curated collection of objections that honestly make you feel like you are at home.

Inside, blew us away. Three antique enormous windows greet you as you walk in, giving it a wow factor that you are hypnotised by why because you see the beauty that is Lettes Bay, the mountains and the stunning ever-changing colours of the sky.

All across Captains Rest, Sarah has paid attention to the most important factor, the beauty of outside, so creating the seat by the window to snuggle in and watch the world outside, which consists of the lakes ripples and the ducks waiting to be fed. Equally is a beautiful desk, or somewhere to eat from to be again entranced by the tranquillity of the bay. With no internet, and no one able to reach you, the simple life of just living in the moment, off the grid, creates a peace I don’t think you’ll of experienced in quite a while. No wonder this is such a popular place for a slow stay.

Brimming with a curated collection, fine lines and textures create a shack with soul and warmth to it where you instantly feel at home.

Conscious Luxury|DESIGN

Designed with an eye for the curious traveller, curated collection of objects clearly sourced from around the world, and pieced together with precision yet not overly styled like some can come across.

This was my husband who actually said this, Mikey Enright who has worked for over 20 years with interior stylists and designers creating some of the top venues across Australia and abroad. So as I am equally from a design background we both have an eye for this, but sometimes he catches me off guard by mentioning it first! Or at all!

Sarah Andrews is a stylist, who renovates and decorates homes with her unique way of telling stories through her curated objects which is such a talent. to possess.

The Captains Rest is a breathtaking space, she has collected objects and seen beauty in what could be mundane objects for some, yet seen potential as to how to pull them together intertwining them in her story telling in a interior space.

It is obvious as soon as you set foot in her stylish shack that it is a serene space, uniquely decorated with old portraits, antiques, fine linens, velvets along with so many textiles from both Australia and around the world. The

warm decor, calming atmosphere and the presence of the sea is what sets Sarah’s home apart from any other, named Captains Rest, this is a befitting name for Sarah’s shack considering her past and it is a place that we’ve never seen anything quite like it before.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND

Feeding the gorgeous ‘girls’n as often as you can.

Going for a walk, there are plenty of beaches around to explore, to have a sundowner at.

Watch the sunrise and set simply outside Captains Rest snuggled in a blanket in winter or perched in my favourite spot which I did monopolise during our stay, let the husband have it once.

Go to the Coffee shack for delicious treats and a great coffee or chai too.

Otherwise get that fire roaring snuggle in with a book, glass of wine and soak in the delightful bath.

RELAX, AND ENJOY THE ART OF DOING NOTHING, WITH NO ONE BEING ABLE TO REACH YOU. PURE BLISS!

FREYA’S FINAL THOUGHTS.

TIPs

Tasmania is very windy and cold at times so make sure you have got everything for all weather. Don’t forget to pack ready for winter conditions, however the summer sun is beautiful so going in Summer, enjoy the outdoors.

We stocked up on some food before we arrived as there was nothing local other than a fabulous coffee shop.

FREYA’S FINAL WORDS ON THE CAPTAINS REST

This exceeded our expectations, and one that we will go back to. I loved the scenery, we had forgotten what life was like just being in the present moment. Without any internet, no contact, just simple life, tranquility, beautiful views and noise of wildlife. Yes. The ‘Girls’ who will wake you in the morning and afternoon, anytime to be fed. You’ll love it here. I didn’t want to leave, and I can’t wait to return.

INCLUSIVE

What will you find, simple mod cons, nothing fancy, just what you need. We shopped before we arrived so had everything.
